Website Development
The rich object oriented platform provided by Microsoft's ASP.Net architecture
is in my view the most advanced, flexible and enjoyable technology to work with
when building websites. I have used other technologies in the past like Java
Sever Pages (JSP) and PHP but I find ASP.Net to be lightyears ahead. Some
people dont like them but I for one am firmly in the Microsoft camp.
This is really important because the web has changed in the last 10 years. When
the web 'started' in the late 80's and early 90's its content was relatively
static, consisting mainly of text and a few graphics sprinkled here and there.
These days visitors not only expect an aesthetic experience with decent,
relevant content they also demand interaction. A modern website has the rich
functionality you would normally associate with a desktop application such as
Word and as such requires a developer that not only is skilled in graphic
layout but also programming and database design.
As expalined above I only use the best tools for developing your site. I use
Visual Studio Enterprise Architect for developing and Photoshop and Fireworks
for designing. I use SQL Server for most of the database work but can also use
Access or Oracle.
If you are not familiar with website technology, this can be very overwhelming
and even intimidating. Nobody likes to be dependant on others, but it just
isn't practical to learn it all. The best you can do is find someone who is
honest, truly knows the technology, and is able to communicate to you on a
business level and not just "techno-jargon." I fulfill this need.
I don't want you to take my word for it, however. I would prefer you to fill
out a project request. Let's
talk about your website needs and the best way to tackle your project. I am
more than happy to give you advice and direction without any obligation to hire
me.
